Weaving Community

Bringing people together in local community settings for theatre, story telling and poetry, music and whatever other events interest us. This is inspired by the living room theatre/ concert movement where small venues create an intimate setting for high quality performances in your local community. Not having a large enough living room, this means making good use of local community centres and halls. Bringing professional performers to us, we can have a great night out, stretch our minds and hearts through the arts and when it's in our own town, all without getting in a car. These events are arranged on a not for profit basis and aim to provide the artists with a reasonable fee. As they are in small venues it's a balancing act to cover the basic costs and this is often done by requesting people make good use of the bar, and if willing and able, give a further donation of time or money on top of the ticket price. Help with advertising, set up, running the bar, cleaning and tidying up after are much appreciated. Watch this space for more events and don't hesitate to get in touch if you have an idea for an event you'd like to see in North Tawton or a nearby town.

The first event took place in North Tawton in December 2025. It was a fantastic night out with such high quality performances we burst into applause mid way through! The interval and after show bar was full of lively conversation and new connections being made. Many thanks to Philip Robinson and Sarah White and all who came and contributed to a great evening on a cold rainy winter's night.

Reviews are coming in:

On a wet and windy December night in Devon, my husband and I were invited into the world of Samuel Beckett through a masterful production that I would have never believed possible in such an intimate venue. It was a privilege to be so close to such talent and I defy anyone to find a more exciting, provoking and moving piece of theatre anywhere. Long may events like this live!

To witness such a high quality piece of theatre in a small community centre is an extraordinary pleasure and privilege. It was both entertaining and inspirational throughout. I was, as the saying goes, "blown away".

It was most splendid to have this great Beckett show popping up in our own community centre. A real treat in all sorts of ways.  We would love it if more theatre, and other performing arts, were available just up the road.

Living Room Theatre's Best of Beckett show at the North Tawton's Community Centre was a real treat and performed to a very high standard. How amazing to have this opportunity right on our doorstep! Not only did most of us meet new local people, this shared immersive experience of Beckett’s brilliant creativity has generated discussion and connection wherever we happen to meet.

We weave the ground we stand on together
